We were really looking forward to trying this café, but unfortunately we left disappointed. We waited over 30 minutes for smoothies and pancakes. The "fluffy" pancakes were quite flat, and the berries had clearly been microwaved from frozen, turning into a mush. On the other hand, the fruit in the açaí bowl was still frozen solid with ice crystals. The staff seemed friendly, but they appeared to be understaffed, which probably explains the long wait. Sadly, in its current state, we don't feel the food matches the price.
Very cute little spot, the food and coffee was good. Its not to expensive in comparison to other cafes. The real fruit icecream is delicious, and there's a lovely outdoor seating area where birds come to visit. The little outdoor playground is nice for young kids. Its a nice stop along the walk on the bike track. Definitely coming back.
Spending 250 days of the year on the road means a lot of lunches. This was top three. Its freezing cold and they had a beef stew on the menu and it was PERFECT! Tender, flavorful and I could have sculled back another bowl. Amazing bread on the side, wish I asked for a second peace as it was so tasty. Will come back next time around, very grateful for that meal. Very well priced to!
The beef stew was good, and the staff were friendly. However, the customer service could be improved. We ordered two dishes but only one arrived. After waiting about 20 minutes, we had to ask about the second dish, which had been forgotten.
Visiting Gisborne for the weekend and needing my morning coffee, I googled which cafe was closest from our Airbnb, which was Zephyr Wainui. Beautiful cafe & beautiful coffee, what ruined my experience here was the lady who served me, wasn’t friendly or polite. I thought I’d wait outside in the sun for my order and the lady who served me, for some reason, didn’t want to walk to me and hand my coffee and said ‘I’ll leave it here for you’ on a table inside. Thought that was strange, as a younger female soon after, walked all the way out to me with my smoothie. Left the cafe feeling a little bitter with the service, glad my coffee and smoothie were good though!
